WHAT IS DERMAPLANING?
Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that gently scrapes away the top layer of dull, dead skin cells, revealing a smoother, brighter complexion. It also removes that sometimes annoying peach fuzz, allowing for greater penetration of skincare products and creating a smooth canvas for makeup to glide on. We often use dermaplaning to help prepare skin for our C02 laser treatments and chemical peels.
DERMAPLANING VS MICRODERMABRASION
They are both forms of physical exfoliation, but very different methods. Microdermabrasion sands and suctions dead skin cells, which also helps to uproot clogged pores around the nose, mouth and chin. Dermaplaning safely scrapes off the top layer of skin, so it is well suited for drier skin types and anyone who wants to get rid of peach fuzz. But, keep in mind, both methods are good for almost everyone and it could just boil down to your personal preference.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with acneic skin. If you have deep cystic acne, wait until breakouts are clear before trying this treatment. As always, also discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities before starting a treatment. This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the risk of harsh chemicals absorbing into the blood stream and potentially harming your baby.
WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?
Dermaplaning is a painless procedure and can be compared to the sensation of shaving your legs, but in this case, it’s on your face. The process is simple and only takes about 40 minutes from start to finish. First, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and dried. Next, the dermaplaning treatment, followed by a moisturizer or Exotic Oil Treatment, tailored to your needs. You can apply sunscreen and make-up immediately after the procedure.
ARE THERE IMMEDIATE SIDE EFFECTS?
There are no side effects and zero downtime. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may already look very pink, so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
WHAT ARE ANTICIPATED RESULTS?
You’ll immediately look more radiant with a more even skin-tone and texture. All of your peach fuzz will be gone, which is why first-timers say their skin has never felt so soft before.
RECOMMENDED COURSE FOR OPTIMAL RESULTS?
Dermaplaning removes 21 days worth of dead skin cells, so it’s best to allow the skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle before your next treatment. But, some clients come in every two weeks and find this is perfect amount of time. Everyone is a little different.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Beautiful Laser's regular price for Dermaplaning is $99, but click the here to see what specials we may be running or sign up for the newletter to receive deals.
ARE PACKAGES AVAILABLE?
Yes, always. Sign up for our two-week maintenance program and receive the discounted price of $79 per session.
Note: Many women are often concerned that shaving peach fuzz will make it grow back heavier and darker, but that’s just an old wives’ tale. Superficial vellus hair (soft, fine facial hair) will grow back at the same rate and with the same texture as it was before the treatment.
